The founder of the company Josefina “PENNY” Capistrano started the accessories trading company Simply Penny Jewelry in Manila in early 1980s then Southwest Trading in Cebu in early 1990s.

In 2022, Simply Penny and Southwest Trading was relaunched as Aplaya Fashion Accessories Manufacturing as its new company name, with daughter Josefina Mercedes “Jewel” Capistrano, the second generation owner, taking over the reins of the company. Leveraging on the company’s legacy and strong reputation in the industry, Aplaya remains committed to providing top notch service to their valued customers. Jewel has an 8 year background in IT sales with various companies, including DELL Technologies Inc. where she was focused on driving the consumer geographical expansion in the country. She founded her own company in 2019, IWood Inc. with a business tagline, “I am plastic free” or #IAMPLASTICFREE.
Her business advocates for reducing single use plastics by offering biodegradable straws. Jewel has been exposed to the family business and the export industry from a young age. This experience has given her a solid foundation in the field and a deep understanding of the industry. She is now continuing her mother’s legacy, building on her success and aiming to take the company to new heights. The company is dedicated to helping others by employing skilled individuals.
